So long.. and Thanks for the space
Probably my last posting via Blogger.com, No updates in over a year probably gave the game away. Lost some interest, but mostly just busy with stuff.
However.. I have a new website done now (well.. nearly, it needs a load of themeing) which is built around wordpress so I'll be able to keep the weblog going. I hope to import this blog into it as a 'starting point', and then flesh the site out a bit, but not too much :-).

Curious
"Today there is no one to correct a lie once it is told. The media, thanks to Republicans, has been concentrated in few hands, and they are not the hands of newsmen. Corporate values rule. If lies sell, sell them. If listeners, viewers, and readers want confirmation of their resentments and beliefs, give it to them. Objectivity turns listeners off and is a money loser."
Just what I've been thinking too.. Amusingly it's from someone who is also selling something, a book about modern-day Brownshirts.

What no news?
A quick update; I've been working on my new website quite a lot; and nothing has really happened here, I should blog more but just have no time.
I'm also busy with my job, which is nice and a lot better than unemployment!

Whitebait?
Chinese Danios (Tanichthys albonubes); beautiful to look at, and can live at room temperature which keeps my tank plumbing simple.
They are also known as White Cloud Mountain minnows, after the mountain in China where they were first classified by someone named 'Tan'; hence the first part of their latin name, and are actually a species of carp.

Operating System..
"Remember, we call it an "operating system", not an "operated system", for a reason: it's the OS's duty to run your machine, not your machine's duty to run the OS - but just try making that point.."
The Register touches on something that I discovered this weekend while investigating whether my Laptop is worth upgrading to Vista.

Beware falling Moose heads.
Slightly surreal story here, Dangerous places laboratories! Shocking for the girl involved, but it does make me think of Fawlty Towers! :-)

Consumer Electronics!
I must confess, I am quite impressed by this! If only it had native SMB or FTP support. Sigh.. but a FreeBSD port is available.

Another Go?
Well, my last attempt at keeping Goldfish went tragically awry, but I think I can see where I went wrong. Cleaning out the tank after Charles died I had way too much gravel in there, and there was a lot of, frankly, crap in it. So I've removed 3/4 of the gravel, Iīll fit a nicer filter, and try again! I also plan to add some sort of algae eating fish to the mix.

Useful info
The Register really is a useful source of info, I especially like the way they tackle the really big stuff, such as why you have to shut your eyes to sneeze..

Long day yesterday
The Diana enquiry report came out. Drunk driver trying to outrun paperazzi, in probably the worlds safest car, three people were not wearing seat belts. They died, the one who belted up survived, that says more about this than any conspiracy theory.
Thinking of conspiracy, I feel really sorry for Mohamed Al-Fayed, I don't blame him about his reaction because the British establishment -is- crap enough to have murdered her, but in this case an accident is the most plausible explanation.. And Al Fayed is a man who has lost his son and is in terrible grief, he has my deepest sympathy.
